    Plant Diversity and Endemism in China: Unreachable Locations and Diverse Microclimates

    Among the newly described species, four new members of the African violet family were found from a subtropical forest in Yunnan province in southern China, discovered by researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, CAS and their collaborators. Half of them were found only from a sole population and require further botanical examinations to deploy the conservation priorities, remark the scientists.

      A New Species of Woody Bamboo Reported from Xishuangbanna

      While checking the bamboo collections, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) discovered an extraordinary Dendrocalamus species. After literature review and morphological comparisons, the researchers confirmed that the species is new to science. They named the new bamboo species as Dendrocalamus menghanensis to refer to its original place, i.e. Menghan Town, Xishuangbanna, south Yunnan and got it published in PhytoKeys.
