Ca Impacts Phosphorus Recovery in Form of Struvite Crystallization in the Wastewater[Sep 03, 2019]

The Ecology Pollution Group in Wuhan Botanical Garden investigated phosphorus recovery and quality of crystals obtained from synthetic supernatant with varying Ca/Mg ratio through batch experiments. They found that Ca impacted phosphorus recovery in form of struvite crystallization in the wastewater.

Two New Tribes of Lauraceae Reported[Sep 02, 2019]

Researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden described two new tribes of Lauraceae, Caryodaphnopsideae and Neocinnamomeae. They also updated the compositions of other four tribes Cassytheae, Cinnamomeae, Cryptocaryeae, and Hypodaphnideae, based on the phylogenetic framework and phylogenetically conservative traits.

    Short-Term UMP/UR Administration Regulates Lipid Metabolism in Early-Weaned Piglets[Sep 02, 2019]

Researchers from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture conducted a 10-day experiment to investigate whether short-term UMP/UR treatment could regulate lipid metabolism in early-weaned piglets. They found that UMP and UR significantly decreased C12:0 and C14:0 fatty acid in liver.

Scientists Unravel Chemical Immunity in Plants Against Arthropod-borne Viruses[Aug 31, 2019]

A group of scientists led by Prof. YE Jian from Institute of Microbiology discovered that viruses mobilize plant immunity to deter nonvector insect herbivores. They uncovered the mechanism used by begomoviruses to alter a host plant's immune system, which may facilitate the development of biological methods to control vector-borne diseases.

Microbiota-gut-brain Interaction Confers Thermal Benefits to Survive Cold in Small Mammals[Aug 30, 2019]

Surviving in the harsh winter is an extreme challenge to the non-hibernating small mammals living in northern temperate area. When animals were exposed to coldness, the secretion of norepinephrine (NE) from sympathetic fibers distributing in brown adipose tissue (BAT), is increased to activate the intracellular cAMP-PKA-pCREB signaling pathway.

A New Species of Woody Bamboo Reported from Xishuangbanna[Aug 30, 2019]

While checking the bamboo collections, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) discovered an extraordinary Dendrocalamus species. After literature review and morphological comparisons, the researchers confirmed that the species is new to science. They named the new bamboo species as Dendrocalamus menghanensis to refer to its original place, i.e. Menghan Town, Xishuangbanna, south Yunnan and got it published in PhytoKeys.
